Hatfield Ice Arena....Comar Pa.
The Spyder Selects Midget 16 (1995) team opened play in their first Tournament of the 2011 Spring season. The boys skated this morning against the Lehigh Valley Flames. The Flames are the result of the recent merger of the Bethlehem Blast and Lehigh Valley Comets. The two organizations have competed for years in Lehigh Valley Youth Hockey. They came together combining their resources and talent. The 95 boys found themselves tied 2-2 after 2 periods as they out shot the Flames 19-11. The Flames scored 2 quick goals in the third but the 95 team would not go away. Seconds after having the second goal of the game waived off, they found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 1. The Flames held on to win the game. Team 95 played hard and kept coming back and out shot the Flames by double digits. Coach Flament told me after the game tonight was a must win against a very good Hatfield Ice home team. Picking it up in the second period team 95 was down 2-1 with 6 minuets left. Flament and Coach Lofberg shuffled the lines and the team responded. They scored 3 unanswered goals in the last 5 minutes to win 4-2. As one "veteran" parent put it... "A nice win!".
Team 95 was challenged today and as a team the coaches and players responded in both games.
All in all a nice day of youth hockey
Team 95 has 2 big games tomorrow that they know will be tough, competitive tests and
tonight I am told they are looking forward to it....

Hatfield Ice Arena....Colmar Pa.

The Spyder Selects 1995 team played in the Memorial Meltdown Tournament Championship game tonight. While they did not win the Championship game they certainly had an impact on the Hatfield Ice Arena. The fact that this teams first game together was in this tournament spoke volumes about the skill and coaching on the ice. Playing against teams that skate year round together Team 1995 came back twice to win games and out shot every opponent it faced. Congratulations to Coach Flament and Coach Lofberg for providing outstanding leadership throughout the weekend. Congratulations to team 1995 on playing together, competing hard, never giving up and most of all for conducting themselves in a way in that made your families proud. The team improved each time they took to the ice. One parent put it best, ...."Thanks coach(es) for everything.  These experiences are about more then just winning a trophy. Seems like the boys had a good time and enjoyed being with each other both on and off the ice!"...
Well done everyone.

Saturday June 18 2011....Brewster NY...
The 2001, 2000 and 1997 II teams all saw action today in the Weekend Doghouse tournament.
All three teams worked hard today. The 01's notched 8 goals while allowing 2 as they went 2-0 and will advance to the Championship game with a win tomorrow morning. The 2000 team gained valuable experience as they played up against almost exclusively 1999 rosters in their 2 games. The pace of the games was fast, the play was physical and the boys stuck together and played hard.
Team 1997 II opened the day with a tough 5-4 loss after leading most of the way. They responded in Their second game by putting up 10 goals. They play tomorrow and a win will place them in a position to play for the championship.
Happy Fathers Day!

June 18, 2011...Marlborough Mass.
The Spyder Selects Midget team made the trip to Marlborough Mass today to begin play in the Boston Icemen tournament. By all accounts the the 95 boys may have had a dose of car legs from the trek. A sluggish first period saw the All Out Hockey Selects out shoot the Spyders by double digits as they took a 2-1 lead. In what is becoming the hallmark of this team, the resilient 95's just flat out outworked the much bigger and more physical AOH Selects in the second period to take control of the game. Special team play was very good with all 3 lines playing crucial roles in the win. The defense was solid doing a good job of neutralizing some very talented AOH skaters. Once again the 95's focused on the task at hand, unselfishly left retaliation out of the game and played as a team to seal a 7-4 opening day victory...team was the key word today....

The 1998/1999 Spyder Selects Ice Hockey team capped a successful Spring season this past Father’s Day Weekend, winning the Championship at the Weekend in the Doghouse Tournament in Brewster, N.Y. by defeating the Mid-Jersey Selects 4-0 in the Finals. The Spyder Selects won their tune-up scrimmage the week before the tournament, defeating the Devils 10-4 and creating important and necessary chemistry with linemates and teammates alike. After going a strong 2-1 with a +8 goal differential in the preliminary stages of the tournament, the Spyder Selects were awarded the top seed and a berth in the Finals. Goalie Robert Romoff posted the shutout in the Championship game, making a number of big saves at key moments and allowing the team to build an eventually insurmountable lead. Forwards Adam Marvin and CJ Greco paced the team offensively, leading the tournament in scoring and providing a dynamic offensive punch for the top two lines. Tim Patwell, Ciaran McEnroe, Dean Baumann, Thomas Murphy, Luke Myers, Mike Finnerty, and Shaan Greenberg all contributed to the scoresheet for the Spyder hockey team during the tournament, with notably important Penalty Killing provided by Murphy, McEnroe, Patwell, and Baumann. The defensive unit of Owen McGee, David Moon, Holden Gruber, James DiPasquale, Hunter Churgin, Kevin Tang, and Jackson Galichon all provided sound defense from the back end, with key contributions in the transition game and in the defensive zone. Goaltender Jared Ceol also played a large part in team success, as he and Romoff formed a steady tandem that the team leaned on for the duration of the tournament. Congratulations to all players and parents on this impressive accomplishment!
