The 1998/1999 Spyder Selects Ice Hockey team capped a successful Spring season this past Father’s Day Weekend, winning the Championship at the Weekend in the Doghouse Tournament in Brewster, N.Y. by defeating the Mid-Jersey Selects 4-0 in the Finals. The Spyder Selects won their tune-up scrimmage the week before the tournament, defeating the Devils 10-4 and creating important and necessary chemistry with linemates and teammates alike. After going a strong 2-1 with a +8 goal differential in the preliminary stages of the tournament, the Spyder Selects were awarded the top seed and a berth in the Finals. Goalie Robert Romoff posted the shutout in the Championship game, making a number of big saves at key moments and allowing the team to build an eventually insurmountable lead. Forwards Adam Marvin and CJ Greco paced the team offensively, leading the tournament in scoring and providing a dynamic offensive punch for the top two lines. Tim Patwell, Ciaran McEnroe, Dean Baumann, Thomas Murphy, Luke Myers, Mike Finnerty, and Shaan Greenberg all contributed to the scoresheet for the Spyder hockey team during the tournament, with notably important Penalty Killing provided by Murphy, McEnroe, Patwell, and Baumann. The defensive unit of Owen McGee, David Moon, Holden Gruber, James DiPasquale, Hunter Churgin, Kevin Tang, and Jackson Galichon all provided sound defense from the back end, with key contributions in the transition game and in the defensive zone. Goaltender Jared Ceol also played a large part in team success, as he and Romoff formed a steady tandem that the team leaned on for the duration of the tournament. Congratulations to all players and parents on this impressive accomplishment! |
